I routed the LP4 connectors in the DVD bay of the Mac Pro in an awkward, temporary route around the hard drive bays to connect to the card. The box includes a 6-pin to double-LP4 cable for power. No boot screen from the Mac during startup.Ī note about the physical installation of this card. Everything I tried returned an error from ATIFlash that the BIOS was invalid.
I could not get any EFI-modified BIOS to flash into the card. Video from the DVI port using OS X 10.6.8 I booted with a FreeDOS disc and used ATIFlash.exe to flash the card. I used the Radeon BIOS Editor tool within a Virtual Box machine to edit the BIOS file and change video card ID to HD 5770. I downloaded the newest BIOS file for my card from the Gigabyte website. I did not edit the ATI6000Controller.kext file. I edited the OS X ATI5000Controller.kext file to add the device ID of the Gigabyte card as described in jamie763p's notes. Gigabyte HD 6770 model GV-R677D5-1GD purchased from I can confirm that by using jamie763p's notes as a guide, I have a working Gigabyte HD 6770 in my Mac Pro 2,1 running OS X 10.6.8. Yes in traditional noob fashion I got the problem fixed myself! I hope I helped to get this working for you! :-) I haven't tried out all ports yet but we'll see what happens.

If everything worked correctly, you should now have Full QE/CI on the card, which in my case is still identified as the 5000 Series. It'll prompt you to reboot.ĥ) Reboot into Mac OS X. Open the BIOS firmware we just created, and click 'Program'. Now, open up WinATIFlash.exe (in the extracted folder). Save the BIOS to your desktop, it should give you something with '2D. Load in the BIOS we created (button bottom-left) and change the card model to the 5770 in the menus (bottom-right) but leave the vendor as it is. Open up GPU-Z, Select your AMD card and click the save BIOS button, save it to desktop for ease.

Download all three and extract/install if necessary. You will need to go over to and download Radeon BIOS Editor, GPU-Z and WinATIFlash. In my case it detected the card once I logged in as 'ATI HD5000 series, no specific model.' The 6770 is essentially a rebranded 5770, which has native support under OS X Lion.Ĥ) Head on over into Windows, I was using Windows 7. I had my main display connected to the 6770 and my secondary to the 8800GT to make life easier so I could see a boot screen. If your card doesn't seem to be working, try installing 'ATY_init.kext', have a look round netkas' website and google for this. In my case, it took a boot into Windows to get this working, your mileage may vary on this. You should now have 2D (No QE/CI) functionality on your card. Do this for the 50 kext.ģ) Reboot the system. Save the file (you may need to unlock it, click 'Unlock' at the prompt) and then replace it back in the Contents folder. Make a space at the end and paste in your deviceid and add the '1002' or whatever onto the end to make it like the existing ones.

Look in the document for a load of things similar to your DeviceID, in my case they are the ID plus ending '1002'. Copy this to your desktop and open it up in TextEdit. Right click on one of these at a time and 'Show Package Contents' > Contents > ist. Scroll down to ATI5000/6000Controller.kext. You should see a lot of brick-like icons. After this, head on over to /System/Library/Extensions in Finder. Copy the device ID, in my case this was 0圆8b8, but it varies between vendors, ie between Asus and Saphire etc.
Head over into 'About this Mac', then go into more and then system report on Lion (Not sure if this guide will work necessarily with Snow Leopard, I will have a go sooner or later so check back for details!).

This is what worked for me.ġ) Install the card in slot 2 (I'm presuming) and keep a 'bootable' or apple-certified card in slot 1, in my case the 8800GT that came with my computer.Ģ) Boot into OS X and change the kexts. It is highly unlikely that you will but if everything has worked so far and you're following this it shouldn't. NOTE: I accept NO RESPONSIBILITY if you damage your card/mac in this process.

Here's what I did to get QE/CI working on a PC (Asus) Radeon HD6770 with 1GB of VRAM, a DVI, VGA and HDMI port: NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE A WORKING WINDOWS INSTALLATION. Yes in traditional noob fashion I got the problem fixed myself! With some hunting around the forums, I've been able to piece together guides to make it work.
